Sean Strub interview on Queer We Are
Sean Strub was appointed mayor of Milford, Pennsylvania, the Pike County seat, in 2016. He was elected to a four-year term in 2017 and, in 2021, reelected with 60% of the vote. He is the subject of “My Friend the Mayor”, an award-winning documentary about his 2017 campaign (streaming on Amazon Prime).

Sean is a longtime LGBTQ and HIV activist, founded POZ Magazine, and in 1990 was the first openly HIV+ person to run for federal office. He wrote Body Counts: A Memoir of Politics, Sex, AIDS and Survival (Scribner 2014) and co-authored two books on corporate social responsibility.

He founded the Sero Project, a network of people living with HIV leading the fight to end HIV criminalization. His 2011 short film, HIV is Not a Crime, introduced the problem of HIV criminalization to advocates around the world.

He and his husband, Javier Morales, are involved in many cultural, political and community endeavors in Northeast Pennsylvania.
